Hippieman found some higher resolution renders from the XBLA game on his hard drive. This plugin combines the scraps to give you mostly complete compiler, cyborg, fighter, green trooper, hunter, tick, and f'lickta replacements.

  • There is no purple trooper, it will be low res. Sorry, Vidmasters.
  • One frame of the brown hunter is missing, and will appear low-res
  • The orange compiler was generated from the purple one using the hald clut that was used for the original plugin. All the compilers were squished vertically to fit the original XBLA aspect ratio.
  • Not (yet?) included: the "Marine" sprites
  • Not included: the Classic Marathon-style red compiler
Notes for version 0.2:
  • Fixes black outlines in DDS conversion

lolplugins 1.2

W'rkncacnter on 08/06/2018

A set of Weland plugins.

NOTE: If these aren't showing up in your list of plugins, you may have to compile them yourself.

Includes a plugin for: * Completely texturing levels from scratch * Generating stairs * Resizing maps * Bulk modifying monster flags for a level. * Adding annotations to maps with random complaints from DADDY_Z3RO * A re-release of VISUAL MODE so all of my plugins are together.

The source code is available for all of the plugins.

Notes for version 1.2:

Added "Alter Monster Falgs" plugin.

CFP is a complete set of high definition textures for Marathon Infinity and Durandal. Based on the original Freeverse Marathon 2 Durandal XBLA textures, these have been further enhanced by the Alephone community with glowmaps and made to support Marathon Infinity.

Contributors:

Freeverse, Hopper, Treellama, TheDoc45, General Tacticus, J2k, Spurious Interrupt, Tfear7

This is the monsters portion of the plugin.

Installation: The downloaded file must be decompressed and the sub zip files moved to the appropriate plugin folder. The reason the plugin is broken up is for improved performance while still having the benefit of being compressed.

Note: Alephone doesn't handle overly large compressed plugins very well, especially on OSX. This is because Alephone would have to decompress the entire monster set just to get at the relatively few sprites it needs for any given instance. By breaking the plugin up into multiple plugins for each monster type, it only has to decompress what it needs for an instance.

Marathon 2 AMP! is a reworking of visuals and gameplay to emphasize a boost in action without deviating from familiarity. This has been developed specifically for the Marathon 2 scenario to bring about another option of play for this excellent scenario.

Replaces the old flamethrower projectile animation with prettier flame. Works best with bloom enabled.

Added 7 additional frames, so this uses a shapes patch to append some bitmaps and frames to the explosions collection.

For added fun, make some custom physics with a slower, wandering flamethrower burst. Also cut down the firing sequence on anything using a flamethrower to one tick.

Turn marathon into a turn based strategy game with this lua script.

When hosting, just pick one of the standard gametypes like normal and enable this script. It is not a netscript gametype.

This existed once a long time ago, but I must have loched and deleted it or something.

Annotations Lua 1.0

irons on 03/22/2024

Screenshot titled ""

This script makes it possible to leave annotations on the overhead map. This can be useful for exploration or for reminders about ammo caches, switches to flip, etc.

There is theoretical support for co-op games, but this has not been tested extensively. Scenarios that make heavy use of Lua such as Eternal and Where Monsters Are In Dreams might not work nicely with the Annotations script.

Along with the included Readme file, you can watch a tutorial video here.

Notes for version 1.0:

First version. Persistent annotations, presets, and custom strings.

The Works v1.0

icedham on 10/21/2009

Screenshot titled "pic5"

This is the first map I have put up ont he internet and I am not that great at making maps, so I need some comments on how to make it better. This not a multilayer map it is a single player one. I like to see Pfhor and Bobs go at it and kill each other for some reason so I created The Works for that purpose. The game might get a little laggy because there are a lot of objects.

Originally released in 2002, "Xariim" is my solo scenario for Marathon Rubicon. 14 solo levels, one solo carnage level, three Read Me's. The (positive) review on archives.bungie.org is still up - read it if you want.

Tested with Rubicon X and Aleph One 1.2.1. Select the scenario file under Environment.

ADRESSING THE 2/5 REVIEW BELOW: Yes, it is true that this release has issues. While I don't know what the reviewer is refering to with Ataraxia being "unbeatable" (I just played through the entire package), it is true that a switch in "Closed Quarters BOB Combat" should actually be a destructable surface. As a result you can block your own progress by hitting the "switch" again. There are more similar bugs in later levels. There are other minor problems too, like some polys not having ambient sounds. That all being said, I can assure the reviewer that Rubicon Xariim was tested a lot, by me, Jane Davison and partially Christopher Lund. John Sumner vidmastered the whole thing, so you can watch him beat the Ataraxia level. The reason why these issues never got fixed is that I released the package in 2002 when I finished school. After that I was off doing the mandatory military service in Germany, so not much mapmaking going on during that time.

Marathon: Pathways into Darkness Version 0.5 now available!

I am sorry it took so long to get this beta out to the public. The reason was that the MPiD Images file was giving a lot of trouble and so I have decided to replace it with a regular Infinity Images file.

If you download the beta I would love to hear your opinions and/or suggestions. I will not appreciate ugly rants but any sort of constructive criticism is VERY welcome. Please post your thoughts here or email me at: nhoad at sunbeach.net

Now, there are several problems in this beta that I am already aware of. If you have a suggestion for how to best fix them I would be happy to hear it:

Most blue in the game is transparent: This is a problem caused because of the blues used in PiD. DeepThought is indirectly helping me fix this problem. Monsters get stuck in walls or don't attack immediately: This is a mapping problem which I intend to fix as I polish the levels. Any mapping tips are welcome! There is no resting: Bobwithkeycard is helping me implement resting, for the moment there are only a set number of health potions per level. Some items are undersize or oversized Levels seem really short. This is simply a fact of PiD levels, if you move at any sort of decent speed the levels become much shorter PLAY ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY! PiD was not designed for multiple difficulty levels and neither is MPiD! Monsters on Total Carnage WILL eat you alive! You cannot go back between levels: A1 doesn't like this feature and it would be incredibly hard to implement (and not really worth it in the end). So there will be no backtracking.

Those are the big problems and I hope to fix them all. I REALLY want to hear your recommendations, opinions or even encouragement! If there are any problems in the beta (such you cannot travel between level 3 and 4) let me know and I will upload a corrected map file for the beta.

What to expect in future versions:

A completely new Images file. New high-res textures, weapons and sprites by DeepThought New LUA by bobwithkeycard (LUA which will allow resting, talking to the dead PiD style, nuclear bombs and more) Chapter screens by Phobos-Romulus All of the original PiD levels

Thank you all very much for your support and I hope you enjoy this beta until the full version of MPiD is released! Note: There is no release date so don't bother asking.

Many of the MPiD team members have come and gone over the years and I believe that myself and Patrick White are the only remaining active members of the team listed below.

Beta Credits:

PS: The MPiD Team is in no way responsible for any damage caused to your computer by this beta.

PPS: I have a serious issue with crediting people, I MUST do it. If you notice anything in this beta you believe you were not credited for let me know immediately please!
